About Zoë

Zoë Carmichael SEA is an award-winning sculptor who specialises in bronze sculptures of animals, particularly the equine form. She is inspired by a lifetime spent in the saddle at local and International level enabling her to capture the spirit and soul of each animal.

Carmichael trained at the renowned Studio Galleria Romanelli in Florence under the tutelage of Raffaello Romanelli, learning the Old Master Techniques of bronze sculpture. Romanelli placed Carmichael in the top 1% of students he’s taught in 15 years, and she has been labelled as ‘one to watch’ by art world experts. As commented by the Curator of the British Sporting Arts Trust on her Hunt Horse bronze, ‘Zoë Carmichael has a sympathy and understanding of her subjects so rarely found in the history of equine sculpture; it is akin to that displayed by Munnings in his bronze of the racehorse Brown Jack’.

Carmichael has become the first ever Sculptor-in-Residence to the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment and her work won the prize for ‘Best Sculpture’ at the ‘Horse in Art’ Exhibition both 2023 and 2024, as well as ‘Best in Show’ for 2024.  Carmichael’s commissions range from Grade One racehorses, namely the record breaking ‘Kitty’s Light’, to the shire horse Mascot to the Worshipful Company of Coopers.

Beyond artistic contributions, Carmichael’s work aims to have a broader social impact, as she has done for charities Waterberg Rhino UK and the Household Cavalry Foundation through sculptures, Tyson the baby rhino and three HCMR horses. Carmichael engages in projects that not only deliver high-quality sculptures but also support educational initiatives, bring communities together, and raise funds for wider causes, she uses her sculpture to drive positive change. Carmichael’s sculptures are created from working from life and her studio in Gloucestershire and are cast in Basingstoke.
